March 24, 2023 – Hit album #470 tonight. Making slow and steady progress. Currently focusing on Blue Note, Prestige, and adding OJC records to a new section I made recently. Hoping for album #500 early this summer.
November 23, 2023 – I’ve decided that I like the interface of Songwhip better than then clunky “Stream this Album” site I had been using, so I’ll be using Songwhip moving forward while also going back in time to change out the old links. Another maintenance project that gets in the way of adding new material, but the site will be better because of it.
November 18, 2023 – All albums are assigned to their new pages, except for Herbie Hancock who is unrepresented so far. Will fix that as soon as I can. Also hanged 1955 and 1969 graphics to allow for more years. Happy Holidays to all.
November 14, 2023 – Received six more pieces of commissioned artwork from Tim Foley Illustrations. Ralph J. Gleason and In the Artist’s Words are populated. Will take me a few days to add all the applicable albums to Burrell, Hancock, Rollins, and Monk.
October 13, 2023 – Adding a bit of extra accessibility by changing the galleries to display the album name when you hover over the cover. Should help in situations where the album’s name isn’t legible at first glance. See the Blue Note Catalog for an example of a gallery that’s displaying correctly. Will have the others changed over as time allows.
September 30, 2023 – It’s the end of September, and I’ve finally worked my way through the backlog of albums I had written up from 1955-1957. The flow of albums is going to slow down now, but you’ll start to see the years get spread out a bit more. We’re at 386 albums and 627,000 words.
August 13, 2023 – In the past couple of weeks I’ve added new artwork to from Tim for Donald Byrd, Percy Heath, Hank Mobley, and Horace Silver bringing the total of artist sections on the homepage to eight. I’ve also continued to steadily add albums. The site currently contains 343 albums and 537,000 words.
August 01, 2023 – Two milestones this week. The website passed 5,000 views and 500,000 words. Not bad for the first six months! Thank you for coming by.
July 20, 2023 – The 300th album on the website is Brew Moore – The Brew Moore Quintet. The album cover is a gothic, almost Lovecrafitan nightmare. I love it. You can listen to it on Tidal here or on the Internet Archive here. This website now contains 457,828 words.
July 09, 2023 – Completed editing existing albums to make fonts readable. It’s now full speed ahead on adding new stuff.
July 05, 2023 – Three new Miles Davis albums: PRLP 7109, PRLP 7150, and PRLP 7650, all revolving around the famous December 24, 1954 Miles/Monk session.
June 24, 2023 – New artwork from Tim this week for Paul Chambers, Art Blakey, Nat Hentoff and Leonard Feather. I’ve assigned their respective albums and opened up their pages.
June 17, 2023 – Another 11 albums added. 254 albums, 374,000 words
June 16, 2023 – Still working behind the scenes, updating existing albums and improving fonts. About 75% done with that project. Also added about a dozen new albums tonight. Currently sit at 243 albums and 361,000 words
May 20, 2023 – Thrilled to announce that my friend Tim Foley (of Tim Foley Illustrations) has has agreed to create original artwork for the website. You’ll see his work on the homepage in the artist and author sections
